High Cholesterol
Study background
High Cholesterol is a medical condition in which there are high amounts of cholesterol in your blood. High Cholesterol can limit blood flow which can increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. There are 2 main types of Cholesterol: Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) also known as bad cholesterol, and High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) also known as good cholesterol. Pitavastatin and Ezetimibe are both available cholesterol-lowering medications and earlier studies show that they can reduce the bad cholesterol by up to 30%.
This research study is being conducted to see if a combination of Pitavastatin and Ezetimibe combined in a single medication will help reduce the bad cholesterol by an even larger amount. We will be running the study across 3 different groups in which you would randomly be placed in: Pitavastatin only, Ezetimibe only, or combined Pitavastatin and Ezetimibe.
Study Details
The study would require you to come in for 7 visits over 5 months which will take up to an hour for each visit. Over the course of the study we would check your medical history, basic measurements such as your height and weight, draw some blood, and provide some education on diet and exercise. We would also ask you to stop taking your current cholesterol-lowering medication and provide you with the study medication to be taken once daily for the duration of the study. Once the study has completed, we would give you a phone call 2 weeks later to do a follow-up.
You may also be reimbursed for your time and involvement in the research study.
